Restore Movement with Advanced Joint Replacement Surgery

Personalized hip, knee, and shoulder replacements using modern, minimally invasive techniques for faster recovery and lasting results.

At the Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, we believe that joint pain shouldn’t define your life. Our joint replacement program is designed to help you move better, feel stronger, and regain confidence—using proven surgical techniques, personalized care, and a focus on long-term outcomes.

As an independent orthopedic practice, you’ll work directly with your surgeon, ensuring clear communication and decisions centered on your goals. We’re proud to participate in the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI)—a statewide registry that tracks joint replacement outcomes and safety. This participation reflects our commitment to transparency, continuous improvement, and the highest standards in joint care.

We offer a full range of joint replacement options, each suited to different needs. Below is more information on each:

Services & Techniques

Total Joint Replacement
(Hip, Knee, Shoulder)

This is the most comprehensive option. Surgeons remove the damaged surfaces of the joint (bone and cartilage) and replace them with artificial components (prostheses) made of metal, plastic, or ceramic. The goal is to replicate the natural motion of a healthy joint.

Patients considering this path often have severe arthritis, structural joint damage, or persistent pain that hasn’t improved with non-surgical treatments.

Partial Joint
Replacement

For some patients whose damage is localized to a portion of the joint (for example, one “compartment” of the knee), only that damaged area is replaced.

This can allow for a more conservative procedure, less disruption to surrounding tissue, and a quicker recovery.

Anterior Hip Replacement
(Anterior Approach)

In this method, surgeons access the hip joint from the front (anterior) side—sliding between muscles rather than cutting through them. That helps reduce muscle damage, pain, and recovery time.

Many patients report earlier mobility and fewer position restrictions.

Jiffy Knee
Replacement

Designed for faster recovery, the “Jiffy” technique uses smaller incisions and refined surgical steps to preserve soft tissue.

The aim is to reduce pain, minimize swelling, and help patients return to walking more quickly.

Revision Joint
Replacement

Sometimes, a previously implanted joint component may loosen, wear out, or become painful. In those cases, a revision procedure may replace or repair part or all of the prosthetic.

This is more complex and requires careful planning, but with our experienced surgeons, we aim to restore stability and comfort.

Patient Journey & Recovery

From your first consultation to full recovery, here’s a general path we guide you along:

Initial Evaluation & Consultation

We’ll review your medical history, imaging (X-rays, MRI), and discuss your goals. Together, we’ll decide which replacement option fits your needs best.

Pre-Surgery Planning

You’ll undergo tests (blood work, EKG, clearance) and meet the surgical team. We’ll optimize your health to promote quicker healing (e.g. managing chronic conditions, nutrition, prehab exercises).

Surgery

Under anesthesia, your surgeon implants the prosthetic
joint with precision. Depending on the procedure,
surgery takes a few hours.

Post-Op & Hospital Stay

You’ll begin gentle movement and physical therapy under supervision. Pain control, wound care, and early mobility are top priorities.

Rehabilitation

Over weeks to months, guided therapy helps rebuild strength, flexibility, and motion. Our team collaborates with physical therapists for the best protocols.

Long-Term Recovery

Many patients return to daily activities, walking, and sometimes more active hobbies. We monitor outcomes—thanks to MARCQI—to ensure your joint continues performing well.
