The Physical Therapy Department at Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine provides comprehensive, evidence-based rehabilitation for orthopaedic injuries, post-surgical recovery, and sports-related conditions. Our Director

Nick Bugbee, PT, DPT

Director of Physical Therapy | Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine

With more than 12 years of experience in outpatient physical therapy, orthopaedic rehabilitation, and sports medicine, Nick leads the clinic’s physical therapy program with a strong focus on patient outcomes, efficiency, and collaborative care.

Nick works closely with Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine’s Orthopedic Surgeons to provide seamless, evidence-based physical therapy care — from post-surgical rehabilitation to non-surgical injury treatment and performance-focused recovery. His clinical expertise includes joint replacement rehab, sports injuries, ACL injury prevention, movement dysfunction, and return-to-activity programming for patients of all ages.

As Clinic Director, Nick oversees physical therapy operations, staffing, compliance, and quality assurance while continuing to treat a diverse orthopaedic caseload. His leadership ensures patients receive timely care, clear communication, and personalized treatment plans designed to help them move better, recover safely, and return to daily life, work, or sports with confidence.

Nick earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Andrews University and holds multiple advanced certifications, including:

  • Sportsmetrics® ACL Injury Prevention

  • Functional Movement Screen (FMS)

  • Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)

  • Kinetacore® Functional Dry Needling (Level 1)

  • RockCuff® Blood Flow Restriction Training
    He is also a longtime member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and is completing advanced certification in manual therapy through the North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT).

Nick is known for his patient-centered approach, strong communication skills, and commitment to helping Southwest Michigan patients achieve long-term recovery and improved movement — not just short-term relief.
