Southwest Michigan Center For Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Expands Local Clinic to Improve Access and Care
Joint Care Access Improvements Take Center Stage in Niles
Orthopaedic Surgeon services in the Niles area are getting an overhaul. We expanded office space so more providers can be on site daily, which means faster appointments, better urgent care, and more room for walk-ins. The goal is simple: get people seen quickly and provide higher-quality care for the community.
Why this expansion matters
The region had limited orthopedic availability for some time. That gap created delays for people who need timely treatment for injuries and chronic conditions. By increasing on-site staff and room capacity, we are addressing that gap directly.
“The Niles area is underserved. It’s a great opportunity for us to provide care and increase the availability for Orthopaedics.” – Dr. Nicholas Loafman, DO, Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
Immediate operational improvements
- More providers each day. The clinic moved from a single daily provider to two clinicians present every day, improving appointment availability.
- Faster response for urgent needs. With additional staff, patients can be seen more quickly for emergency-type issues and acute visits.
- Walk-in capacity. Increased staffing and space allow us to accept more walk-ins without disrupting scheduled care.

Plans for the future
Plans are in the works for a new facility downtown, adjacent to the hospital. This next step will bring orthopaedics and physical therapy together under one roof so patients benefit from coordinated, multidisciplinary care. The proximity to the hospital also streamlines referrals and post-operative follow-up.

What a new facility will deliver
- Integrated orthopaedic and physical therapy services for faster recovery plans.
- Improved scheduling and access for surgical consults with Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeons.
- Better capacity to treat more patients in a timely fashion, reducing wait times and improving outcomes.
Benefits for patients and providers
Expanding the clinic is a win-win. Patients get quicker access to specialists and timely interventions. Providers gain the space and support needed to expand their practices and see more cases effectively. Ultimately the community receives stronger, more reliable orthopedic care.
- Patients: Reduced wait times, more appointment options, access to walk-in care.
- Providers: Room to grow practice and see a broader range of cases.
- Community: Increased local availability of specialized care led by experienced clinicians, including Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeons.
